문장조합 - 명사를 수식하는 방법 (고급)

형용사로 수식

형용사는 명사를 앞에서 수식합니다.

 

(a) The pretty girl is my brother.

(b) I like reading English book.

(c) She wears in white cloths.

형용사절로 수식

형용자절은 명사를 뒤에서 수식합니다.

 

(a) The man who lives in next door is a doctor.

(b) Everyone who want to come to the party is welcome.

(c) I remember the name of man I met yesterday.

형용사절의 축약으로 수식

who, which, that 이 주어로 사용된 형용사절은 축약되어 주로 ~ing , ~ed 의 형태로 명사를 수식합니다.

 

(a) The man living in next door is Jack.

(b) Everyone wanting to come the party is welcome.

(c) My father bought me the toy made of wood.

명사 + to do

to do ~ 의 형태로도 명사를 뒤에서 수식할 수 있습니다.

 

(a) I need a bread to eat. ( a bread which I can eat)

(b) Could you give me something to drink ? (something which I can drink)

 

그런데 '명사+to do something' 는 형태는 유사하지만 수식하는 내용이 아닙니다.

cf. I go to the restaurant to eat dinner.

명사 + 전치사

전치사를 사용하여 명사를 뒤에서 수식할 수 있습니다.

 

(a) They sent me a check for $150.

(b) The cause of the explosion is unknown.

(c) There has been an increase in the number of road accidents recently.

(d) Did you get an invitation to the party ?
